Hanging out with Thomas

At the end of September, we took Andrew (and Kyle, too) to the Day Out with Thomas the Tank Engine event at the Colorado Railway Museum down in Golden. Andrew continues to be an ardent train enthusiast and was very excited to go see ‘the real Thomas’. It was a beautiful day and Andrew really enjoyed getting to see all the big trains. They also had some model trains and you could get train tattoos, listen to songs in the ’roundhouse’, pet animals (not sure how that related to trains but Andrew thought it was fun), and eat a ‘hobo lunch’ (PB&J sandwich wrapped in a bandana on the end of a stick). The highlight of the trip the ride on a real train pulled by a Thomas-looking steam engine. All-in-all it was a pretty entertaining day.

Fun in Alabama

After visiting Houston, our family headed east to Montgomery, Alabama to visit the Zubrick clan. The week was filled with lots of fun activities: playing with trains, doing some construction with Gamma, taking walks around the block with the wagon, swimming at the pool, dinner and meeting friends at the golf course, visiting the children’s area at the art museum, and seeing all the animals at the zoo. Andrew and Kyle (and Shelley and Dave, too) enjoyed getting to visit with Frank and Margaret and Brad and were sad to head home when the week came to an end.

Labor Day with the Houston Deakins

For Labor Day this year, we packed up and traveled down to Houston to visit Derrick and Melanie’s family. It was a busy house with five boys running around (well, ok, four running around and Kyle watching). Andrew was shy when we first arrived, but by the end of the trip he was racing up and down the long hallway right alongside Stephen and Charlie and Jack. Uncle David got to polish his boardgame skills, engaging in several rounds of Electronic Battleship, Clue, and Monopoly with Jack. The adults got to hang out, too, and we watched to see whether Hurricane Gustav would pay a visit (it ended up turning east, unlike Hurricane Ike a few weeks later). It was a fun trip and, when the time came to go, we were sad to say goodbye.
