Injured Tex!
On Saturday, we went out to the pumpkin patch farm to get some good pumpkins to carve for Halloween. Who could predict what terrors awaited us there…
Actually there were no terrors, but there was a very mean farm dog who ran up to Tex and chomped him on the head! We pulled the other dog off Tex and thought he was fine, but as we were out hunting for pumpkins, we noticed that he was bleeding near his right eye. We took him to the vet and she checked him out. He was a pretty lucky puppy; there was a big cut in his right eyelid but it just missed going deep enough to puncture into his eye. The vet cleaned it out and put some surgical glue in the hole to help it stay closed while it was healing. Poor Tex looks like he has been boxing a little bit, but he is expected to make a full recovery.
Exciting Weekends
Weekends at the Deakins house are often filled with exciting activities. Since most of the trees in the front yard have lost their leaves, this past weekend Dave got to try out his new gadget, the “Leaf Hog” (It was the gift that Veeco gave me for 10 years of service with the company). It is pretty much like a big vacuum cleaner for sucking up leaves, which may not sound too exciting but which was actually pretty entertaining for me.
After all that hard work outdoors, sometimes Tex and his dad sit by the fireplace and watch the football game. Ok, Tex doesn’t seem to be watching much. Sometimes he thinks naps are more exciting that football…
Parenting Practice
In order to better prepare for our upcoming arrival in March, Jeff and Becca Hill graciously loaned us their daugher, Lael, this past Friday night. Things went pretty smoothly except for the time that Dave let her fall out of the side of the chair at the Chinese restaurant. Lael loved leaping off the step from our front entry to our living room and Dave reaffirmed his theory that little children remember lessons about their world better when they are accompanied by things like pain.
Lael was a big fan of Tex, too. He did his best to help out, but as you can see he was not always amused…
